About Music South

Music South is a non-profit, community-based organization, founded in 1979 by individuals interested in bringing quality symphonic music to the Wiregrass area, including Southeast Alabama, Southwest Georgia and the north central Florida Panhandle. The nearest comparable programs are approximately 100 miles away in Montgomery, Tallahassee and Columbus and are not geographically or economically feasible to attend for many who live here.

Music South was originally established as the South Alabama Symphony Association. In 2000, the name was changed to better reflect the evolution of the organization from strictly symphonic concerts to a wide range of quality musical performances.

We are currently the only ALL VOLUNTEER cultural arts organization in the Dothan area. Board members perform all of the activities associated with fundraising, artist procurement, marketing and event management.

Our Mission

Our mission is to enrich the cultural life of the children and adults in the Wiregrass area by presenting a broad range of quality musical performances and providing comprehensive music education.

Our Goals

Provide diverse music programs which match community interest.

Provide first-hand experience with orchestral music for area elementary, middle and high school students.

Maintain budget stability by exercising fiscal responsibility and utilizing volunteers for administration, communications, community outreach, revenue development, and fiscal integrity.

Last season, approximately 6000 students and adults attended Music South concerts and in-school programs. The attendance this season is expected to exceed that level.

Music South respectfully requests funding to underwrite some of these performance fees. Through this funding, we will continue to enhance the cultural well-being of our community and add another dimension to the quality of life in the Wiregrass area.
